1 Theater (forever and always)
2 Sharing books with friends and having them write in them
3 Playing the question game
This blog is going to be about number 2.
I can not tell you the amazing and magical moments I have by letting friends write in my books margins. So far I have had these books marked up:
Looking for Alaska by John Green
Paper Towns by John Green
Running with Scissors by Augusten Burroughs
and me and my friends all time favorite: The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
Jenna Rae Rudolph first showed me this concept with perks. I remember how she told me that when people write in your book it's like you are reading it with them. The book itself is like a little history. When she first handed me perks I flipped through the pages and there was some sort of movie ticket I asked if it was a bookmark and she said no Someone put it there and so It's a part of the book. So now I am fully developed in that philosophy that anything that happens to the book is part of the book.
My friend Lisha spilled water on Running with Scissors and though we all joke about it and tease her it doesn't bug me at all. Its kind of awesome really. It's weird to me how I can flip through the pages and there wont be any markings but then theres 7 pages completely filled up to the brim with quotes, poems, or just ideas and thoughts.
I have the book with me right now here is some examples:
A paragraph someone boxed in:
[ Our lives are one endless stretch of misery punctuated by processed fast foods and the occasional crisis or amusing curiosity] With someone marking under it "Pretty much...."
Or people circling certain words: Hexagonal and King. or having thoughts about just one word: Refined (underline with the thought: I love this word) Its all very magical.
So if you would ever like to take a journey with me and my friends then just ask me for one of my books and you can lock yourself up in your room and we will be with you with every page you turn. :)
