american beauty stand by me goodfellas war horse goonies
I have a top 5 favorite movies list
1 American beauty
2 Stand by Me
3 Goodfellas
4 War Horse
5 Goonies
Got it? Let's GO
GOONIES
"Don't you realize? The next time you see sky, it'll be over another town. The next time you take a test, it'll be in some other school. Our parents, they want the best of stuff for us. But right now, they got to do what's right for them. Because it's their time. Their time! Up there! Down here, it's our time. It's our time down here."
When I was little growing up in Illinois no one had ever heard of the goonies. Honestly I thought it was a movie that was specifically made me for me. This was before the time that I understood that all movies are produced and shipped off all over the world. It was my own special video. It was the type of movie you rewound over and over and over again. Whenever I watch it nowadays I get really really nostalgic that it gets difficult to watch and I have to turn it off. I know that sounds weird but that's just how it is. When I hear people talk about goonies I think to myself: "oh yeah you know about that too?" I had dreams of these kids being my friend, I remember playing pretend once in my friend Dacon's back yard. Goonies is the type of movie that the reason I enjoy it is not because of great editing or filming or lines or even the story. I like it because it is me. It helped form me into who I am.
War Horse
"The war is taking everything from everyone"
Sometimes I just want to see a movie where I know exactly how I want things to end and it actually goes my way. That's what War Horse was for me. Just a feel good coming of age movie. The story was lovely the actors were brilliant. oh especially the mum. She killed me. Also this movie was really funny to me. I also laughed at really strange parts that weren't funny to anyone else. I loved the characters. They were written very well and that made it really interesting. I just love movies that make me feel good.
Goodfellas
You know, we always called each other good fellas. Like you said to, uh, somebody, :You're gonna like this guy. He's all right. He's a good fella. He's one of us.: You understand? We were good fellas.
I love this movie because the good guys in the movie are the bad guys and you don't know whether to root or boo them. In the end they all get exactly what is coming to them and I love it. I love seeing how some parts are like a documentary and then the others are shot just like a real good story. I think that is something all my favorite movies have in common: a good story. I have never seen another mob movie but I feel like I don't need to because none could ever be as great as goodfellas. Actually I heard there is one where someone gets a horse head on there pillow. I gotta check into that.
Stand by Me
"You guys wanna see a dead body"
That is the best line to ever be uttered in any film ever made. 4 10(?) year old kids are excited to have an adventure together but don't understand the emotional/physical/mental aspects of what they are actually going to do. Best coming of age film EVER. And who can forget the epic train scene? SO COOL. Also River Pheonix emotional monologue about the milk money is probably on my top 3 favorite scenes in existence. I love the honesty of the prologue bit. How friends really do end up leaving each other. "just another face in the hall" That part makes me extremely sad though because how can you go on that journey and just forget about each other. One final note: THE MUSIC IS AMAZING
American Beauty
"Our marriage is just for show. A commercial for how normal we are when we're anything but."
I don't want to say too much on this film sense people might actually be reading this blog and I think AB is the type of film that you need to go into not knowing anyting about it.
I will tell you this though: The first time I ever saw it I literally could not get enough strength to get out of the chair. In my mind If I didn't stay for the credits I would have been extremely disrespectful.
So there you go. Later on today I will be blogging about travels I have taken. In the meantime I challenge you all to see one of these movies and tell me what you think.
